Called To Adopt

Bunk Beds!

posted Tuesday, 7 September 2004

The new bunk beds for what will be the girls’ room arrived today.  We laughed because the sales-lady had said, “Some assembly will be required.”  The whole thing needs assembly!  The only parts that are already assembled are the spindles in the headboards and footboards.  Nevermind, sure,we need something else to do. The boxes and mattresses are now taking up most of our family room.  We’ll try to get it set up tomorrow.  John has also been converting our garage into his office space. The old garage door is gone forever and he has put in a permanent wall which looks, from the outside, like carriage house-type garage doors.  Hardware and windows yet to come but it will look nice in the end.

The last minute panic is really starting to kick in.  I am trying to make sure that all of our traveling media equipment will work together smoothly and making to-do lists at the same time.  Here’s an example:  (1) get duffle bag; (2) Make grooming appointment for dog (shaving, really); (3) Go by and pay Michelle for the haircut (I ran out of checks. Thank goodness, she knows me); (4) Meet with the vestry person who oversees our Sunday School program to make sure we have enough teachers; (5) Go out and have a visit with my sister, her husband, and their beautiful new daughter whom I will have the extraordinary joy of baptizing this coming Sunday; and, that’s just the half of it. You get the idea!

Son John has decided to bump down from the varsity to the junior varsity football team in hopes of actually getting to play.  I agree that this is a good idea.  Ana took a copy of the Russian-English Oxford picture dictionary to her school as a gift today.  All of our new kids (however many they turn out to be-we hope three) will be going to the same wonderful little Montessori school she attends.  They are excited about our trip too.  Everybody keeps saying, “Is there something we can do?”  I don’t know what to say except, “Please, pray that it all goes well.”  Maybe I should ask if they can come and put a bunk bed set together.  God bless.
